At the end of my travels, I began to paint field studies before leaving Ireland using reference images I had gathered. This diptych was the first attempt I made at painting a holy well. If you look carefully, you can see flecks of cadmium yellow where another painting I was working on rubbed against this one as I hand carried them through airports from Dublin to Wyoming. They were still wet upon my return to the US. This holy well is the second well dedicated to Saint Patrick at the pilgrimage site at Mám Éan, a mountain pass called "The Pass of the Birds" in Connemara.
